The Hollywood Moustache

Most of Hollywood's sexiest men have sported a stache at one point or another in their careers.  But more interesting than that, they have all sported the same moustache - all of them. Check it:

John Gilbert

Errol Flynn

 The ever-sexy Cary Grant
 Clark Gable
Douglas Fairbanks
John Barrymore
 Robert Taylor
Vincent Price
William Powell

There's a reason the Hollywood moustache caught on like a case of the herp'.  It exudes intelligence, control, wealth, and class.  You can't tell me that (nearly) any man with freshly pomade hair, a skinny tie, a tweed suit with pressed lapels, a fedora and a hollywood moustache shaved with a straight razor isn't gonna make your panties drop.

Which genius will bring it back in style first?

Curry's Cleric-Stache

I don't know if I've mentioned before that I have a few "obsessions". And by 'a few' I naturally mean over 100. And probably about half of these are what I call "boyfriends". Don't ask me to explain it, but I do really have 50 boyfriends and none of them (I hope!) know about it....which explains why I just don't have time for a real boyfriend.

One of those "boyfriends" is the charming Tim Curry. What a guy! Not to mention his acting skillz. Or his multiple moustaches. Exhibit A:

Who else can act opposite Charlie Sheen (everyone) and Kiefer Sutherland (no one, hint, another boyfriend) and whatshisface (who cares). The man is trying to single-handedly take over the French empire and almost succeeds (it's okay, Kiefer makes a really awesome musketeer).

What I love about his cleric-stache is the precision it has. And perfect symmetry just scratches the surface. The salt&pepper goatee, the unusual proportion of moustache:chin hair, the oiled curls, and the Vatican lapels. Sexy as hell.

And the thing about Curry's moustaches is that he doesn't need them, they are more of an accessory. You know he has a boudoir in his walk-in closet where he keeps his various moustaches and beards under lock and key. It's similar to Cher's wig closet. Or Davy Jones's locker.

Remembering Heath Ledger

So Heath Ledger died two years ago today. Which is a real fucking shame since there are so few acting geniuses in the world, and he was definitely one of them.

And he had nice facial hair. And hair in general. And perfect bone structure, but we wont get into that.

In Ten Things I Hate About You, Heath Ledger was quite the loverboy as Patrick Verona. Who could resist those curls? Rhetorical question. Moving on...

This is a photo from the movie I'm Not There about the life of Bob Dylan. He even makes chin-straps look sophisticated. And Bob Dylan for that matter.

For all the Heath Ledger scruff fans out there.

Four Feathers. So I don't remember too much about the plot of this movie, but he's captured by the enemies or something like that, lives in the desert and gets to grow this studly combo. And its hard to beat a man holding a spear in a studly contest, just sayin'.

This one is from the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The rag-a-muffin look doesn't do much for me, but his goatee here is particularly villianesque.

He wore this getup to the Academy Awards. Here, I always felt that the discontinuous goatee isn't really his look. But this might be the most adorable grin I've ever seen. And the man has fine lapels.

This is what I'm talking about when I mean nice facial hair. Look at the perfection, the detail! Some men were meant to grow facial hair, and others to envy them. But compare this to the other photos. Where did the eyebrows come from? Oh well, we can't all be natural.

Remember when I said the discontinuous goatee wasn't his look? I was sooo very, very wrong.

Ah, Ned Kelly. Nothing to say about the movie as I have yet to watch it, but thats a nice unkempt beard/groomed hair combo.

Everyone remember this gem of a photo of him flippin' the bird to the paparazzi? He even took the time to write a little sign. He's so dreamy (and I'm so not being sarcastic).
[Note the burly beard]

With love and may he rest in peace,
